Edge-blended projection filling a gallery wall at the Lyon Contemporary reinstallation

Multi-Room & Museum Fit-Outs

Commissioned projection, room by room,
for institutions that brief on paper.

§ 01 — Capacity

Eleven projection engineers, six color scientists, one Rotterdam facility. No subcontractors on site.

Art Projectors Studio was founded in 2017 in Rotterdam by three former museum AV integrators. Today we are a team of forty-one — including eleven in-house projection engineers and six color-science specialists — working out of a single 14,000 sq ft facility on Schiehaven. When a curator signs our commissioning agreement, the engineers who calibrated the panels in our lab are the same engineers who fly out, mount the chassis, blend the walls, and sign the activation report.

We do not resell. We do not subcontract the install. Every system that ships from Rotterdam carries an ISO 9001:2015 calibration certificate and is delivered, mounted, and first-switched-on by a named engineer from our own roster.

§ 02 — APS-Edge Hardware Blending

The media server is the line item that blows out multi-wall budgets. We removed it.

Our proprietary APS-Edge blending engine lives inside the projector chassis itself. It blends up to eight units across a single continuous canvas without an external media server, a separate rack of capture cards, or a third-party playback appliance.

  1. 01

    What it replaces

A discrete media server, capture-card chassis, and the license seat that travels with them — typically 38–44% of a multi-wall install budget before cabling. APS-Edge replaces all three with a hardware module that ships in the projector and is licensed in perpetuity.

  2. 02

    What it blends

Up to eight APS-series projectors across a single rectangular canvas, with sub-pixel geometric warp, edge feathering, and black-level lift handled in the FPGA. A typical 4-projector 12 m wall commissions in under one day on site.

  3. 03

    What the curator sees

One image, one timeline, one playback operator. Each projector accepts a standard SDI or HDMI signal; the chassis does the warp and the blend downstream. The media pipeline ships preconfigured and ships with a licensed copy of ArtLoop — lifetime, no subscription.

Documented saving against a comparable server-based four-wall install: 58% on the integration line, across 47 commissioned projects since 2020.

§ 03 — The Commissioning Protocol

A documented sequence. No surprises between the survey and the switch-on.

Museum AV teams buy on documented process. The four chapters below describe what commissioning a multi-room fit-out looks like at Art Projectors Studio, from the first site walk to the signed activation report.

  1. I.

    Site survey & optical plan

A named engineer spends one to three days on site measuring throw distances, ambient light at exhibition lux, and structural mounting points. Output: a sealed optical plan with throw geometry, lens selection, mounting drawings, and a single-line schematic for the signal path — issued before any deposit is taken.

  2. II.

    Factory color calibration

Every chassis is color-calibrated against the Rec.2020 reference to ΔE < 1 in our Rotterdam lab before it ships. The certificate — signed by the calibrating engineer, not auto-generated — is sealed in a document wallet inside the crate.

  3. III.

    Install by the in-house crew

The same engineering team that built the panels flies to the site, mounts, terminates, and blends the wall. No subcontractors, no local AV handymen, no third-party rigging. Mounting hardware ships in the kit; gallery-grade cabling ships in the kit.

  4. IV.

    On-time first activation

First activation — the moment the curator sees the wall lit end-to-end for the first time — happens on the agreed date. Our on-time first-activation record since 2020 stands at 99.2% across 190+ commissioned projects. The signed activation report is filed against the chassis serial numbers and retained for the lifetime of the warranty.

§ 05 — Begin a fit-out conversation

Tell us the rooms. We will tell you the optics.

Multi-room fit-outs are quoted, not priced. Send the floor plan, the exhibition lux, and the install window — a named engineer replies within two Rotterdam business days with a sealed optical plan and a fixed-fee commissioning agreement.
